Vezelay is a place of magic, peace, power and spirituality in Northern Burgundy, France. We arrived in the dark and our first glimpse was early the next morning. The hill was blanketed in fog and the moon was setting over the Basilica. It was a mystical, floating apparition.
When we arrived we meditated in the nave, then went down to the crypt that is said to have remains of Mary Magdalene's bones. We meditated and contemplated what it means to be a devotee in the company of an enlightened savior.
When we emerged from the crypt the sun was illuminating a hallway of crosses. One after the other, down the full length of the hallway, was lit up with a spotlight shining down from the high windows at the very top of the nave.
It was breathtaking. We were swept away.
