The Power Of Conscious Awareness | Gelong Thubten

Meditation is about switching on, not switching off. Our mind is bigger than our thoughts. The metaphor of the sky as mind and cloud as thoughts and emotions, especially difficult thoughts and emotions, and we are in a plane and landing through the clouds, but we think we may crash into the clouds, the thoughts and we grab onto them.

Focus on the breath. This quickly fails and we are thinking of about what's for lunch. Now is the chance to notice we got lost and bring attention back to breathing and the present moment. Just return to the breath. This strengthens our awareness. We are being awareness.

Not looking for anything, not searching. Not looking for a high, searching for something, needing something.

Culture does not support this. It works against it. Makes us want to feel something, an experience. We are searching, creating a deficiency. Happiness is over. That's how we've lived. A cycle.

We can progress when we start to meditate and let go of searching.

Motivate your practice with compassion. Benefit and dedicate all beings, beings you love.

How you relate to our own discomfort is key. That's the practice. These are the gifts for a mediator. Meet discomfort as a friend. In the elevator, in line waiting, in traffic. Meet it with love and acceptance. Don't try to relax. Meet it with conscious awareness. Make friends with reality. Meet pain with joy and be present. This makes a difference. Bring it on. This is my training! Your relationships change. Open to discomfort, with what is. A kind of oneness or unity.

Rewire your neurons by feeling bad. :)

Look at the ocean, the horizon. Look at the sky. Look out in straight line. Mix your mind with space. Expand your mind with the space.

Start with compassion. Do the practice. End with compassion.
